The Story of Foxlow Photography in Numbers
You may have seen that it was our studio Birthday on Saturday and it’s made me feel a little nostalgic, thinking back on the amazing life that Foxlow Photography has brought us. So I thought we could reminisce on our journey by looking at numbers.

I was on my way to Ikea with my sister in October 2018 when Jon messaged me out of the blue to get a coffee and talk. We knew each other from working in photography studios and got on well, but never socialised outside of that - so I knew he was up to something!
Next thing I knew, he was showing me photos of a 400 year old building in Wirksworth, Derbyshire which he thought would make a brilliant photography studio - and over a Starbucks latte, he asked if I wanted to help him create it.

On 29th November 2018 we got the keys to Hopkinson’s House in Wirksworth, Derbyshire and Foxlow Photography was born. Through December, with festive celebrations all around us, we spent our weekends painting, floor laying and furniture building to transform a rather unloved office into our cosy photography studio.
14 months
When we opened our doors in January 2019, we were actually a more general portrait studio (featuring families, pets, kids and business headshots alongside our boudoir photoshoots) but just 14 months later, we decided to specialise exclusively in Boudoir Photography.
We loved everything about boudoir - the creative photography, the amazing clients, but most of all it was the emotional reactions of those clients that made us realise this was where our passion lay and we’ve never looked back.
562 ladies
Over the last 7 years, we’ve had the privilege of photographing 562 amazing women - 25 of which have come back for a second photoshoot and some have even had a third! Nothing has brought us more pride than when ladies have recommended their friends and family to us too - sisters, mothers and daughters, aunties and nieces, work buddies and best friends.
16 sizes
As a plus size woman myself, I have always wanted to create a boudoir photography studio where all sizes are not only accepted, but celebrated. I’m so grateful that Jon (a straight sized man) has absolutely agreed with me! Not everyone has declared their dress size, and lets be honest sizes are so varied, but I’m so proud that ladies from UK size 4 to 34 have not only rocked their photoshoot with us, but also shared their photos to inspire others.

It isn’t just size inclusivity that is at the heart of our ethos - too many women feel invisible as they grow older, so celebrating women of all ages was essential to us both. We have set our minimum age at 21 years, but there is no upper age limit! To date our oldest client was just a couple of weeks away from turning 75 years old, and I hope we can break that record one day soon. 80th Birthday celebration anyone?

When we launched Foxlow Photography, we wanted to build a social community for our clients to support each other. We created our Instagram account and a private Facebook group which grew to thousands of members in a fabulous positive sisterhood. Yet in 2020 - things changed beyond our greatest expectations!
I joined TikTok during the initial lockdown and discovered a whole new way to communicate our message of body positivity and self love, and the rest is history. I never would have believed that sharing behind-the-scenes clips of our photoshoots, silly comedy skits with Jon and heartfelt messages would be viewed millions of times and bring us 668.8k followers from all over the world.

Until we found our community on TikTok, we could never have imagined a client travelling more than a couple of hours to work with us. The first time someone booked a flight for their photoshoot I was stunned. Over the last 5 years ladies have travelled from 11 different countries to our cosy studio in England, one of which was New Zealand which is literally the opposite side of the world!

Boudoir photography is a very personal thing, and your privacy is very import to us, so all the photos we capture are confidential unless our clients give us written permission to share them. We are so grateful so many of them do! It’s amazing to see the cycle of one woman seeing photos and stories online, having her own photoshoot, and then sharing those photos to inspire someone else. So far we’ve had permission to share 9,774 beautiful photos and we never take that for granted.

Alongside those amazing photos, many of our wonderful ladies have written a few words about their experience to encourage others to follow in their footsteps, and dozens have contributed their stories to our blog and magazines too. I’m under no illusion how powerful they can be to help others find the courage to book their own boudoir photoshoot and how public reviews reassure them they’re making the right choice. We’re so proud that all of our 76 reviews on Google are 5 stars!
